You open a blind box, peek inside, and there it is: the character you already have. Again. Cute? Absolutely. The missing piece of your collection? Not quite.
That’s the fun, and occasional frustration, of blind boxes. Sometimes you want the surprise. Sometimes you just want the little face you fell in love with.
A sealed blind box keeps the character a mystery until you open it. An opened, or “confirmed,” blind box lets you choose the character before buying. Neither way is the right way for everyone. It depends on what makes collecting fun for you.
Sealed blind boxes: a little mystery, a lot of anticipation
There’s something lovely about an unopened blind box. The possibilities, the hopeful shake, the moment before you find out who’s coming home with you.
A sealed blind box comes in factory-sealed packaging with a surprise character inside. Depending on the series, you might find a regular design or a rarer secret or chase character. The manufacturer’s series information is the place to look for any published odds.
If you love discovering a character you might never have picked yourself, sealed boxes have plenty of charm. Duplicates can become trading opportunities, and opening a box with a friend can be half the fun.
Of course, the surprise works both ways. You might get your favorite, or you might meet the same character for the third time. Buying more boxes doesn’t guarantee the one you’re hoping for, so it helps to decide what you’re happy to spend before the excitement takes over.
Prefer the mystery? We occasionally stock sealed blind boxes at Fun Finds N Collectibles too. Keep an eye on the shop for what’s available when you’re in the mood for a surprise.
Confirmed characters: the one you actually wanted
Maybe you’re one character away from finishing a series. Maybe you’ve been thinking about that particular bunny all week. Or maybe you’re buying a gift and know exactly which one will make someone smile.
That’s where confirmed characters come in. Packaging has been opened so the character can be identified, and you buy the specific character shown in the listing or selected option. You trade the mystery for the pleasure of knowing your favorite is on the way.
Confirmed listings are a perfect way to complete a collection. You can fill the gaps instead of starting another pile of “almost, but not quite.” They’re also useful when you want an available secret character without relying on a lucky pull.

“New but opened” doesn’t have to be confusing
It sounds like a contradiction at first. If it’s new, why is it open?
With confirmed blind boxes, packaging is opened to find out which character is inside. An item described as “new but opened” is unused, even though some of its packaging has been opened. You get to know who you’re buying without needing to unwrap the mystery yourself.
There are two separate details here: the character’s condition and the packaging’s condition. A brand-new plush can have an opened bag, and an unused figure can come with a box that has a crease or a scuffed corner.
“Confirmed” simply means the character has been identified. It doesn’t, by itself, mean new or used. The individual listing fills in that part of the story, along with what comes in the package.
A quick word about boxes, bags, and those little extras
Some collectors keep every card and carefully flatten every box. Others free their new companion immediately and never look back. Both are perfectly respectable collecting styles.
If the packaging and extras matter to you, here’s what to look for:
- The box or tin. Is it included, and is there any disclosed wear? Opening marks, dents, or scuffs can matter more if you plan to display the packaging.
- The inner bag. It may be sealed, opened, or no longer included, depending on the item.
- Cards and accessories. A character card, stand, or tiny extra can be part of the charm. See what’s included with the particular listing in the listing details.
Our CJ Hendry Collectibles offer a useful example: an unused Juju plush and its tin can have different condition details. Read the individual listing for opened-bag information and any disclosed tin wear.
If a particular detail matters to your collection, ask us. It’s much nicer to know before your parcel arrives than to wish you’d checked afterward.
Sealed or confirmed? Here’s the short version
| What matters to you? | Sealed blind box | Opened / confirmed box |
|---|---|---|
| Choosing the character | The character is a surprise | You choose the listed character |
| Avoiding unwanted duplicates | Duplicates are possible | Pick the character your collection is missing |
| The mystery reveal | Part of the experience | You already know who’s coming |
| Item condition | Read the listing for details | Read the listing for details |
| Packaging | Factory-sealed as described | Some packaging opened; included contents vary |
| Finding a secret character | A secret isn’t guaranteed | Choose an identified secret when available |
| A good fit for | Surprise lovers, traders, sealed-box collectors | Set completers, favorite-hunters, thoughtful gift buyers |
If opening the mystery is your favorite part, go sealed. If you already have a character picked out in your head, confirmed might be exactly what you’re looking for.
A few little checks before you fall in love
Collecting should be fun. A quick look at the details helps keep it that way.
- Match the character and the series. Familiar faces can appear in different outfits and releases. While browsing our POP MART collectibles, take a moment to check the series and your selected option.
- Enjoy the photos, then read the description. Stock images help show the design; photos of the actual item are especially useful for seeing condition and packaging.
- Notice what’s included. If you collect the cards as enthusiastically as the characters, make sure yours comes with one.
- Look for clear condition details. Factory paint marks and packaging wear are worth knowing about before you buy.
- Ask authenticity questions when you need to. Look for clear information and a seller willing to help. A bargain price or a photo alone can’t settle authenticity.
- Think about the total, not just one box. A confirmed character may cost more than a single sealed box, but several mystery pulls can add up without bringing home your favorite.
Questions collectors ask
Does opened mean used? Not necessarily. Packaging can be opened while the item inside remains unused. Look for the item’s condition separately from its confirmed-character status.
Why open a new box? To identify the character! It lets the seller offer a specific design, and lets you choose the one you actually want.
Will I get the box and character card? That depends on the item and series. The listing should explain what’s included. If you’re hoping to keep the whole little package together, ask us about that item before ordering.
Does opening the seal affect value? It can matter to collectors who prefer factory-sealed packaging, but to most it does not. Neither sealed nor confirmed collectibles are guaranteed to hold or increase their value. Choose something you’ll enjoy owning.
Can I choose a secret or chase character? Yes, when one is available as a confirmed listing. No hopeful mystery pull needed, just make sure you’ve selected the character you want.
A surprise, or a sure favorite?
There’s room for both kinds of collecting. Some days you want the excitement of an unopened box. Other days, you know exactly which little companion belongs on your shelf.
If you’re filling a gap, choosing a gift, or finally bringing home that favorite, explore the current listings at Fun Finds N Collectibles. And if you’re in the mood for a mystery, keep an eye out for the sealed blind boxes we stock from time to time.
